Asymmetry, dissymmetry, beauty.
In physics, theories that are considered "beautiful" tend to be true. Symmetry has long been associated with beauty, as have fractals. However, it is in the realm of dissymmetry and asymmetry where bolstr likes to play. Neither are easy, but both make for a memorable product.
Asymmetrically, there is nothing like a bolstr minimalist EDC bag on the market. We do not have to plaster our name all over the bag for branding and identity. The patented shapes of our products make them unique; you know a bolstr when you see one.
In the case of the bolstr Small Carry (and other products in development), asymmetry forces dissymmetry. Hence, the need for both a righty and a lefty version. While this may present a challenging inventory position, we would not have it any other way from a product design perspective. Anything else would be considered lazy, boring design.
Asymmetry refers to the lack or absence of symmetry, a lack of proportion between the parts of a thing. Dissymmetry, on the other hand, refers to symmetry between two objects with respect to a plane of symmetry, such as between the right and left hands, or between right and left crystals in the brain.
